2004-05 Interscholastic Season
Special event
Rulon Gardner's Olympic moment at Hilltop High School
League title to Monarchs
Breaking news: Monte Vista becomes sole dual meet champion of the 2004-05 season for the Grossmont South League after a recent determination by the Grossmont Conference that Valhalla used a technically ineligible wrestler in the teams' dual meet. Valhalla had initially defeated Monte Vista 42-31 to create a three-way tie for the league title with Granite Hills. However, by the result of the forfeit decision, Monte Vista wins the dual meet by a recalculated score of 37-36 and sole possession of the league title. Granite Hills finishes in second place with one league loss while Valhalla now finishes with two league losses in third place.
The forfeit resulted because of a technicality involving weight certification. Apparently all the proper administrative paperwork had not been processed at the time of the Feb. 3 dual meet.
This marks the second time in recent years that a post-season determination of a forfeiture has altered the regular season order of finish in the league standings. Monte Vista also benefited from that prior circumstance. The league dual meet forfeiture does not affect Valhalla's Grossmont Conference tournament and San Diego Section Division III team championships.
