Jaguar Shootout
6TH ANNUAL VALLEY CENTER HIGH SCHOOL
The Brawley Wildcats came to
the 6th annual Jaguar "Shoot-Out" at Valley Center High School looking to be
mid-season shape. The second-place Jaguars of Valley Center would try to answer
the challenge, but well skilled and conditioned Wildcats would be to much for
them in a 55-6 defeat. The third-place Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns would do
slightly better against the Wildcats, but again to no avail in a 58-12 loss.
Valley Center would win a close contests against Rancho Buena Vista (42-36) and
University City(35-33). The Jaguar "Shoot-Out" Wrestling Tournament fielded 6
varsity teams and 8 junior varsity teams. This tournament was to designed give
each wrestler 4 matches. The tournament began at 9:15 a.m. and was completed at
4 p.m.

Valhalla's Kinports bound for Columbia
Valhalla High senior Dean Kinports has accepted a wrestling scholarship to Columbia University in New York. Columbia, the nation's oldest college wrestling program, celebrated its 100th anniversary last season. The school competes in the EIWA conference with powerhouse Lehigh, Cornell, Penn and Army along with other Ivy league schools including Princeton and Harvard. Kinports joins other top California wrestlers Ricky Turk, Jeff Sato (a UC Davis transfer) and Dustin Tillman.
Dean joins Ryan Guffey among active Valhalla wrestlers in college programs. Guffey was sixth in NAIA championships last year at William Penn where he will return for his junior year next season.
